Gateway Gold Corp. is a mineral exploration company fully focused on identifying and defining gold deposits in Nevada. The Company is managed by an experienced team of directors and consultants with demonstrated abilities in corporate and resource development.
Gateway holds several high quality gold projects in northeastern Nevada in the Jerritt Canyon and Carlin mine districts. Five of the Company's projects -- Big Springs, Mac Ridge, Golden Dome, Dorsey Creek and Jack Creek are located approximately 50 miles northeast of the city of Elko and immediately north of the Jerritt Canyon properties and mine owned and operated by Yukon Gold Corp. following its takeover of Queenstake Resources Ltd. The immediate goal of the Company is to define a major gold deposit at Big Springs with the potential for significant expansion.
Previous open pit mining and drilling at Big Springs indicate the potential for deposits similar to those at the nearby 10 million ounce Jerritt Canyon district. At Jerritt Canyon, gold is now extracted exclusively from several underground mines producing ore averaging about 8 grams per tonne (gpt) or 0.25 ounces per tonne (opt) at a rate exceeding 200,000 ounces annually. Substantial excess milling capacity is available at this site, which is within 10 miles of the Big Springs deposit.
The sixth property, Carlin East, lies within the prolific Carlin Trend, about 3 miles east of the Betze-Post deposit, a 40 million ounce gold deposit. One of the key technical elements that led Gateway to acquire the Carlin East property was the attractive interpretation of regional airborne gravity data as well as the proximity to producing gold mines. A ground based gravity survey over the property, commissioned by the company, confirmed the presence of a well-defined gravity high anomaly. Gateway's geological interpretation indicates that northeasterly structures that control the nearby West Leeville deposit, and several others, project onto the Carlin East property where they intersect the gravity anomaly.
Gateway has raised in excess of $31 million ($CDN) to date and expended over $24 million ($CDN) in exploration over the last five years. In this time over 260,978 feet of drilling have been completed. Detailed deposit modeling was undertaken and an independent National Instrument 43-101 initial resource calculation has been completed, based on results from the Company's work and data from the previous operator. At a 0.025 opt cut-off, the resource is estimated to be 1.2 million ounces gold with an average grade of 0.078 opt. Results from work to date have been very encouraging.
